gen1 517-5p Toehold Switch

Toehold switch that regulates the translation of Luciferase. When micro-RNA hsa517-5p is present, the miRNA binds to part BBa_3905001 (gen1 517-5p Anti-miRNA) which forms duplex. This duplex trigger causes the toehold switch to unfold by binding to the toehold sequence, exposing the RBS and start codon to allow the translation of luciferase. Luciferase production can be measured by adding luciferin and using a luminometer to measure the intensity of the light.
