Dispersin B

This part contains the Dispersin B gene (DspB) from iGem part BBa_K802001 and amplified from Actinobacilus Pleuropneumoniae. We removed the Bacillus subtilis constitutive promoter, Pveg, and transferred the gene to the pSB1C3 iGEM registry plasmid.

The fundamental component of bacterial biofilms is the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), which is composed primarily of exopolysaccharides and proteins. The EPS forms the framework matrix for bacterial biofilms, and composes 50% to 90% of the total organic matter of the biofilm.

DspB is a glycoside hydrolase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the poly-N-acetylglucosamine polysaccharide. This polysaccharide is excreted by both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, and helps compose the extracellular polymeric substance that is the fundamental component of bacterial biofilms.
