Acyl-ACP Reductase (AAR) - Synechococcus elongatus PCC7942
This part encodes an enzyme that reduces cellular fatty acyl-ACPs, from the bacterial fatty acid biosynthesis pathway, into fatty aldehydes. Together with Aldehyde Decarbonylase (ADC) this part form the PetroBrick, which generates alkanes from the fatty acid biosynthesis pathway. This part has been codon-optimized for E. coli.
Usage and Biology
When they are expressed together, AAR and ADC produce alkanes from the cell's fatty acid biosynthetic pathway. Alkane production is enhanced when growing expression strains using the growth conditions developed by the [http://2011.igem.org/Team:Washington 2011 University of Washington iGEM Team].
