BBa_K590031 shortThis part encodes an enzyme that removes the carbonyl group (C=O) from a fatty aldehyde, yielding an alkane one carbon shorter than the original aldehyde and a molecule of formate. Works together with [https://parts.igem.org/wiki/index.php?title=Part:BBa_K590032 Acyl-ACP Reductase] to produce odd chain length alkanes.

===Usage and Biology===

When used together with Acyl-ACP Reductase, Aldehyde Decarbonylase reduces fatty aldehydes into odd chain length alkanes (mostly pentadecanes).

[Image:Washinton_AARADCGC-MS.png|left|400px|thumb|GC plot showing that alkanes are only produced when both ADC and AAR are expressed.]

[Image:Alkanes_Final_Picture.jpg|right|450px|thumb|GC-MS quantification shows greater alkane production under UW iGEM 2011's "optimized conditions" (see wiki for details)]
