UGT1A1 - UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1

UGT1A1 (UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1) is an enzyme belonging to the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) family and plays a role in the detoxification of environmental pollutants such as dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) through glucuronidation (2). This is a process where glucuronic acid is added to lipophilic molecules, increasing their solubility (1) (2). This reaction converts these toxic compounds into more hydrophilic metabolites, making them easier to excrete.

Incorporating UGT1A1 into the detoxification system together with UDP- glucose dehydrogenase aims to detoxify these compounds. The following composites and devices, where this part was used, are listed below: BBa_K5477036 and BBa_K5477047.
