MTA, Metallothionein

contributed by Fudan iGEM 2023

Introduction

Metallothioneins (MTA) are intracellular, low molecular, low molecular weight, cysteine-rich proteins. Ubiquitous in eukaryotes, MTA have unique structural characteristics to give potent metal-binding and redox capabilities.[1] Closely binding with nickel ion, MTA can reduce the harm this metal may cause to the bacteria.

Usage and Biology

In our design, MTA mainly works with BBa_K5115000(RcnR_C35L)and BBa_K1151001(hpn). They can raise the absorptivity of nickel ion as well as reduce the harm nickel brings to our engineering bacteria.
