Design Notes

The promotor Plac starts the transcription of dps gene and the terminator ends the transcription once it is completed. The expression of dps protein is induced by lactose. dps protein protects the bacteria from oxidative damage. It protects DNA against oxidative damage by binding with Fe2+ to prevent it from reacting with H2O2 (Fenton’s reaction). In our project, we inserted this device into C. tyrobutyricum. In aerobic environment, we can use lactose to induce dps expression in the recombinant C. tyrobutyricum to enhance its viability.
