styB
This gene encodes for styB, a gene essential to the biochemical path of styrene degradation into phenyl acetic acid.
This part contains the sequence for the gene styB. styB, originating from Pseudomonas putida S12, codes for one subunit of the catabolic enzyme styrene monooxygenase. This part contains the initial enzyme subunit that aids the pathway for the metabolism of styrene to phenylacetic acid. This subunit forms a dimer with the other subunit coded by the styA gene. Together, they aid in the epoxidation of styrene into (2S)-2-phenyloxirane utilizing oxygen gas and FADH2.1
