Arsenic Inducible Banana Odor Generator

WPI_ATF1MetalPromoter.png

The arsenic inducible promoter converts isoamyl alcohol into isoamyl acetate in the presence of heavy metals, primarily arsenic. This part consists of the Arsenic promoter J33201, Ribosome binding site B0030, ATF1 j45014 (banana odor generator), and a double terminator made up of B0010 and B0012. The generator may express false results, as the generator will produce isoamyl acetate without the presence of arsenic or other heavy metals. But expression appears to rise until a concentration of 5uM arsenite is injected. Any concentrations larger than this appear to be toxic to E.Coli cells, as the production of isoamyl alcohol drops significantly.

The link above leads to a quantification of the production of isoamyl acetate normalized to the same construct with the high strength constitutive promoter J23100.
