E. coli strain YYC912; Odor-free chassis

Escherichia coli strain [http://cgsc2.biology.yale.edu/Strain.php?ID=64826 YYC912]. Biosafety level 1 organism derived from Escherichia coli K12.

BBa_J45999 has a mutation in the tnaA gene which encode a tryptophanase which converts tryptophan to indole. Indole is responsible for the foul stench of E. coli so tnaA mutants can have reduced indole levels and thus reduced foul odor.

Usage and Biology

This E. coli strain is chloramphenicol-resistant.
