CFP optimized for E. coli

Enhanced Cyan Fluorescent Protein with SsrA tag, optimized from part BBa_E0022 with preferential codon usage for improved expression in E. coli.

Usage and Biology

Is a monomeric protein generated on the basis of GFP-like protein from jellyfish Aequorea victoria . It possesses bright fluorescence with excitation/emission maxima at 434 and 477 nm, respectively. It has an extinction coefficient of 26,000 M-1 cm-1, which means how strongly a chemical species absorbs light at a given wavelength. It has low absortion and low quantum yield (40%). The fluorescence quantum yield gives the efficiency of the fluorescence process. It is defined as the ratio of the number of photons emitted to the number of photons absorbed. Modified with an SsrA tail for rapid degradation of the protein and faster fall time for the emission.
