Usage and Biology

DegP is a type of heat shock protein in E.coli. Heat shock protein is a family of proteins whose expression is induced by SOS responses such as heat.

It is also a type of serine protease due to the presence of serine residues in the active center.

In particular, it recognizes and degrades peptides whose structure has been damaged by heat or misfolding.
