SAM:jasmonic acid carboxyl methyltransferase; converts jasmonic acid to jasmine odor

BBa_J45003 encodes SAM jasmonic acid carboxyl methyltransferase derived from JAMT from Arabidopsis thaliana. JAMT catalyzes the conversion of jasmonic acid to methyl jasmonate. Methyl jasmonate has a jasmine smell.

Usage and Biology

  • 1 mM jasmonic acid and 1 mM S-adenosyl methionine (SAM)
  • Seo et al. were able to get the enzyme, purified from E. coli, to catalyze the jasmine-smelling reaction in vitro.
  • Km: 38.5 μM; Kcat: 25 s−1
