This part is taken from the 5' region of the SP3 gene, from the aphid Myzus persicae , made complementary, and expressed in Nicotiana benthamiana to test its effects on the aphid. The hope is that it will prevent formation of aphid bacteriocytes and thus prevent their symbiotic relationship with Buchnera aphidicola , killing the bacteria and the host.
