xplB: reductive denitrification

This gene was firs submitted by the IGEM RUM-UPRM team as a fusion gene. Due to extensive research, the xplA and xplB genes are now separated. Both are involved in the reductive denitrification and ring cleavage of explosive organic contaminant, hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX). These genes are derived from a plasmid-borne gene operon in Rhodococcus rhodochrous strain 11Y.

The xplB gene produces a partner flavodoxin reductase which is complexed with xplA. This reductase promotes electron transfer from the NADPH molecule to the flavodoxin domain of the xplA cytochrome. This allows xplA to degrade RDX.
