Specialized RBS
This RBS should be recognized by ribosomes carrying the modified anti-Shine Dalgarno sequence as found in Brink et al. (see below). It did not appear to work and is no longer used.
Usage and Biology
- When tested as part of I7102 B0036 did not seem to lead to very much translation. The reason for this is not completely clear but may be due to mRNA secondary structure. There is a 4 base pair stem that partially occludes the RBS. Alternatively, the spacing between the RBS and start codon is different that that used by Brink et al.
- When tested as part of E7103 B0036 seemed to lead to efficient translation by endogenous ribosomes. This is likely because of a cryptic 'E. coli' RBS formed by the gag of the preceding mixed connective site and the gt of B0036.
