This part can be used to catalyze transformation of chorismate to isochorismate as an important step in the synthesis of 2,3-DHB, an intermediate in the biosynthetic pathway of enterobactin. Enterobactin is in a family of compounds known as siderophores that bacteria like E. coli can use to chelate and sequester iron ions that are necessary for metabolism and growth.
