aadA gene
The aadA gene is a selectable marker that confers antibiotic resistance to streptomycin and spectinomycin. This gene works particularly well in algae, which are highly sensitive to streptomycin and spectinomycin. The gene encodes the aminoglycoside-3″-adenylyltransferase (AAD) enzyme that adenylates aminoglycoside antibiotics.
