Specifically binds to plastic PS (polystyrene).TA2 M2 was reported to be enriched in aromatic amino acids and the side group of the polystyrene (PS) macromolecular chain is the benzene ring. The binding mechanism of the aromatic amino acids of TA2 and the aromatic moieties of PS is primarily based upon the stacking of aromatic ring systems.
We used this anchoring peptide to modify the gold nanoparticles to give them the ability to aggregate when they meet the corresponding microplastics. This aggregation, caused by microplastics, produces a color change that is visible to the naked eye, which can then be detected by RGB sensors. Secondly, spectral scanning by UV spectrophotometer can also quantitatively detect the effect of plastics, i.e. concentration.
