XRE - Xenobiotic Response Element

Xenobiotic Response Element (XRE) or dioxin response element (DRE) is in eukaryotic cell upstream of inducible target genes for the ligand-activated transcription factor aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) BBa_K3793004 which is responsible for signal transduction of pollutants (1) (2).

XRE was used in the reporter module to drive the expression of NanoLuc under the presence of PAHs or PCB BBa_K5477030. This reporter module was combined with the AhR receptor modules and therefore comprises the following biosensor devices to detect PAHs and PCBs (Aroclor 1260) BBa_K5477041 and BBa_K5477042 .
