ftsY
FtsY is a signal recognition particle (SRP) receptor protein involved in the Sec-SRP pathway, a crucial system for protein translocation in bacteria like Bacillus subtilis. It helps guide nascent proteins, particularly membrane and secretory proteins, to the Sec translocon for transport across the cell membrane. FtsY interacts with the SRP, facilitating the docking of the ribosome-nascent chain complex to the membrane, ensuring accurate and efficient protein secretion. In the context of surfactin production, FtsY has been shown to enhance the export of surfactin, contributing to increased yields when overexpressed.
