Lac Repressor
The Lac repressor is apart of the negative regultory system for plasmid protein expression. When producing, the Lac Repressor will produce a protein that will bind to the Lac Operator and will prevent transcription of the gene of interest (Brown et al. 1987) This repression can be relieved by the addition of IPTG which inhibits the binding of the Lac Repressor to the Lac Operator, allowing the genes to be expressed (Nishizaki et al. 2021)
