Applications of BBa_K538200

The developers of this brick used it to characterise how expression of the coding region (BBa_K538000) incorporated in this part influences the cold resistance of E. coli, looking at 1) it's ability to survive freeze/thaw cycles, and 2) whether or not expression of Cpn10 allows E. coli to maintain a higher growth rate at suboptimal temperatures. Because Cpn10 is only reported to be functional when coexpressed with Cpn60 in the literature, no effect on cold resistance was expected. Nevertheless, preliminary data suggests expression of Cpn10 may enhance E. coli 's freeze/thaw cycle survival rate, independent of Cpn60. It's currently being investigated whether or not this is truly the case. Refer to the experience page of BBa_K538000 for quantitative information on the characterisation experiments.
