MrBBS is the gene found in Matricaria recutita that encodes (–)-α-bisabolol synthase. When MrBBS is transferred into the yeast cell, the encoded enzyme can convert FPP, the product from acetyl-CoA through the mevalonic acid pathway(MVA pathway), to (–)-α-bisabolol. The insertion of MrBBS into the plasmid enables the expression of (–)-α-bisabolol synthase in yeast and promotes the synthesis of the target product.
