Gene Cluster

During the experiment, it was observed that the biosensor responded to the target substance by transporting tagatose from the environment into the cells. Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) has been demonstrated to utilize tagatose as a carbon source due to the presence of a series of gene clusters related to tagatose metabolism, including tagatose transporters. These gene clusters play a crucial role, as they not only encode specific transporters that effectively recognize and transport tagatose, but also include various enzymatic genes that enable the rapid breakdown and utilization of tagatose once it is inside the cells. This process significantly enhances the absorption efficiency of tagatose, allowing E.coli Nissle 1917 to grow and replicate swiftly in a tagatose-rich environment.
