Holin:a 132-amino-acid-residue cytoplasmic membrane protein to lysis Bacillus subtilis.
holin naturally expressed by bacteriophage VB_sup-GOe1 will oligomerize and form a pore in the inner membrane of the host bacteria within a certain allele-specific time. The formation of pores facilitates the transfer of lysozyme endolysin from the cytoplasm to the periplasm. Holin leads B.subtilis to lysis. With the assistance of PGHs, Bacillus subtilis is lyzed and plays a role in releasing bacterial contents.
