CDS Cry3Aa toxin
Cry3Aa toxin is encoded by the cry3Aa gene from Bacillus thuringiensis strain T121. This toxin specifically targets long-horned beetles, such as Apriona germari and Anoplophora glabripennis. Notably, in previous iGEM projects, like the one presented by iGEM Wageningen 2016, Cry3Aa has been shown to have potential applications beyond beetles, such as combating mites like Varroa destructor, a parasite affecting bees. Due to this versatility, we have selected Cry3Aa for our project, as it could potentially target similar organisms, such as S. scabiei, the mite responsible for scabies.
