SL RNA participates in the trans-splicing process in eukaryotes by binding to U1 snRNA and facilitating splicing of precursor RNA. This mechanism is particularly common in lower eukaryotes, where almost all genes in organisms such as trypanosomes and nematodes require this splice addition
