small hairpin RNA RdRp BYV

In order to inhibit the infection of the Beet Yellows Virus in sugar beets, we designed lhRNAs targeting the virus genome. One of the target sequences chosen for our lhRNAs is the one coding for the p21 protein. This protein acts as a suppressor of double-stranded RNA silencers, and is part of a new family of RNA silencing suppressor present in Closterovirus (the family of the BYV). Eliminating this protein will allow the upholding of our siRNAs, and as well the destruction of a part of the virus genome. This part encodes a small hairpin RNA targeting the p21. It will allow us to compare the efficiency of shRNA and lhRNA.
