MSmtA4 is derived from the bacterial metallothione SmtA from Synechococcus PCC 7942 by mutating four sites, which effectively enhanced the adsorption capacity of cadmium, lead and other heavy metals. Codon optimization was carried out to enhance the expression efficiency in the target strain. The SmtA sequence was derived from NCBI.
