mCherry_Gene

Description and Biology

Red Fluorescent Protein mCherry is a constitutively monomeric red fluorescent tetrameric protein original from Discosoma sp. (sea anemones). Generally used as a reporter or tag for the visualization of genes as intracellular prove, it presents improved brightness and photostability over similar photoproteins.

How can this part be used

In AlgaGenix, mCherry sequence has been used for MoClo assembly as a B3-B5 piece to create a reporter cassette that can be adapted for position 6 in Level Ms.

Source of this part

Original sequence was obtained from MoClo kit designed by Crozet, et. al (2018).

Design considerations

MoClo kit provides you with sequences with different overhangs so you can choose the one that better fits you design/cloning plan. Sequence contains an intron (CrRbcS2 intron 1) for an intron-mediated enhancement (IME).

Usage and Biology

Team UVU-Utah-2, 2024

We obtained this part in the Chlamydomonas MoClo kit as described in Crozet et al. (2018). We utilized and characterized this part in composite part(s) K5078005, K5078006. Please check out the documentation for that composite part for more details!
