CAT(Catalase)

It catalyzes hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to produce water and oxygen from peroxisome oxidase, thereby protecting cells from the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide. Promote the growth of T cells, B cells, bone marrow leukemia cells, melanoma cells, mast cell tumor cells and normal and transformed fibroblasts.

Protein Source

In the 19th century, Thénard discovered H2O2 and suspected that its tissue degradation in organisms was the result of a “special” material activity. Schönbein showed that a “ferment” could detoxify H2O2. Later, Loew named the enzyme that could convert H2O2 into water and oxygen as “catalase”.

Protein Activity/Function

Catalytic activity : 2 H2O2 = 2 H2O + O2

Reaction Mechanism

Catalase is first oxidized to a high-valent iron intermediate, called compound I ( Cpd I ), and then reduced to a resting state by a second H2O2 molecule
