TMV movement protein
Usage and Biology
Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), the type member of the tobamoviruses, encodes a single MP with a molecular mass of about 30 kDa. The spread of plant virus infections from cell to cell requires virus encoded proteins commonly referred to as movement proteins (MPs). In fact, the RNA of TMV moves cell-to-cell in a non-encapsidated form in a process depending on virus-encoded movement protein (MP).
This Part is derived from the sequence encoding the 30 KDa protein in the TMV genome, which has movement protein activity and helps specific RNAs move between plant cells.
