AcrB is a part of a multidrug efflux pump system found commonly in E.coli.
AcrB along with AcrA and TolC form a tripartite multidrug efflux pump system that can recognise and extricate multiple antibiotics, and other compounds. AcrB is the inner membrane compound that is mainly responsible for substrate recognition. AcrB is also a part of the Resistance Nodulation cell Division (RND) family, and therefore is most common in gram negative bacteria.
