Overview

mCherry-XL is a basic red fluorescent protein published in 2022, derived from Discosoma sp.. This RFP is evolved to have increased lifespan, increased quantum yield to be on par as the brightest RFP.

Usage and Biology

mCherry-XL is derived from a lifetime-based evolution of mCherry. Four positions were identified near the FP chromophore to be mutated to increase lifetime, resulting in the derivative mCherry-XL (eXtended Lifetime). This RFP boasts an impressive 3-fold quantum yield matching the brightest RFP to date mScarlet.
This is a gene to be used as a reporter. This can be done via fluorescent microscopy.
