mcyH ABC Transporter for Microcystin Production
The mcyH gene is a member of the mcy gene cluster in Microcystis aeruginosa cyanobacteria. The mcy gene cluster is responsible for the production of microcystins, which are hepatotoxins produced by the bacteria. The mcyH gene encodes an ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporter, which is essential for microcystin production. This part was designed so that the mcyH gene could be expressed in E.coli; mcyH is the target sequence for a Cas13a crRNA designed to target microcystis aeruginosa, so by designing a version of this part to be expressed in E.coli, we can test the target specificity of our Cas13a and crRNA in the lab without needing to work with toxic cyanobacteria.
