This protein was discovered in thermus aquaticus in 1976 (Chien et. al)
This page has one of the few part numbers in the registry which contains reference to the ecological niche occupied by the ultimate source organism, a thermophile which was identified in 1969 in Yellowstone National Park.(Brock and Freeze, 1969)
