Guanine actif aptazyme

An aptazyme is an aptamer-ribozyme combination with intrinsic RNA cleavage activity. This aptazyme is specific for the guanine or guanosine ligand. It is composed of 3 different parts: a ribozyme module, a communication module and an aptamer module.

Figure 1: A ribozyme module is in black. The Shine-Dalgarno (SD) is in blue. The guanine-sensing xpt aptamer (light grey) is connected to the ribozyme via a communication module (in green). The figure is reproduced from [Stifel, J., Spöring, M., and Hartig, J.S. (2019). Expanding the toolbox of synthetic riboswitches with guanine-dependent aptazymes. Synthetic Biology 4.]

This aptazyme is an ON-switches type of aptazyme. Its catalytic activity (self-cleavage) requires the presence of ligand.
