Sound could disrupt the plasma membrane and deplete the proton motive force. The proton motive force could also be disrupted by the opening of mechanical sensitive channels, further description of msc's in zntA system information. psp system activates to restore membrane integrity and proton motive force. E Coli relies on a high concentration of protons outside the cell to work. This potential sound sensitive promoter is attached to the sequence that codes for RFP. When the promoter is activated it stimulates RFP expression.
