regulatory small RNA for L. lactis

Small RNA designed to be used in Lactococcus lactis to regulate the protein expression at post-transcriptional level. Hybridizes with the target-mRNA and block its translation. Contains the transcriptional terminator from Bacillus subtilis rrnB.

Usage and Biology

This synthetic sRNA was used in our device to control the gene expression from a glucose input. We tested it (experiment: https://parts.igem.org/Part:BBa_K2270005) and we could see that the sRNA is effective in regulating the GFP expression, since that in the experiments using mannitol and galactose as carbon source (when the sRNA was expressed) we can see low values for fluorescence, confirming that the sRNA can hybridized efficiently to its target and block the translation. Thus, we were able to design a simple tool for gene expression that can be used in many ways associated with different parts.
