The his6 tag [1] serves as an epitope tag. The GS spacers were added to adjust the length of the linker.
Source
Short GS linker sequences were added to the amino acid sequence HHHHHH [1]. GSHHHHHHSG backtranslated and obtained via DNA oligo synthesis.
