Cells expressing this part seem to grow very strangely in liquid culture. They grow slower, and also aggregate, forming large visible clumps in the media, despite shaking in the incubator. They have not been tested for ability to produce and export AIP since no suitable assay for this molecule was found, however the growth issue suggests that they are doing something.
Applications of BBa_I746211
It was hoped that this part could be used as part of a peptide based signalling system for E. coli.
