gcvBp promoter

gcvBp is the promoter region of the gcvB gene, which encodes a transcription factor involved in amino acid and the glycine cleavage system. This part and the glycine cleavage system is native to Escherichia coli K12. When glycine levels are elevated, glycine binds to gcvR. When glycine levels are low, gcvR regulates gcvA by binding to it, inhibiting the activity of the transcription factor: however, when glycine binds to gcvR, gcvA is released and can bind to the gcvBp promoter region and activate transcription.
