To purify this protein from cell lysate, we used the New England Biolabs Chitin Magnetic Beads protein purification kit, which isolates proteins that bind to chitin-coated magnetic beads. The following gel image shows that BBa_K1499401 (nicknamed C2) was successfully purified with the chitin magnetic beads, suggesting that it exhibits chitin-binding activity. | To purify this protein from cell lysate, we used the New England Biolabs Chitin Magnetic Beads protein purification kit, which isolates proteins that bind to chitin-coated magnetic beads. Applications of BBa_K1499401
The protein encoded by this gene has shown potential chitin-binding activity. Pending assays for cellulose-binding activity and hydrophobicity, this protein could be used to waterproof chitin- and cellulose-based biomaterials – specifically in our case, fungal mycelium and bacterial cellulose.
