ERG20

ERG20 is a gene which encodes farnesyl pyrophosphate synthetase (FPPS), a pivotal enzyme in the isoprenoid biosynthesis pathway. The isoprenoid biosynthesis pathway is specifically responsible for the synthesis of farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP), a critical intermediate for the production of sterols, dolichols, prenylated proteins, and other important biomolecules. The insertion of ERG20 into the plasmid allows for the tunable expression of FPPS and boosted FPP production, thus increasing the synthesizing efficiency of α-bisabolol, a valuable sesquiterpene alcohol derived from FPP.
