VDBP1 [Corallina pilulifera]

Vanadium-dependent bromoperoxidase 1 from Corallina pilulifera, Bromoperoxidases are enzymes prevalent in marine organisms that can combine bromide and hydrogen peroxide and produce brominated compounds according to the equation Br- + H2O2 --> HOBr + OH-, HOBr + CH --> CHBr + OH, One of such compounds in bromoform which is a volatile chemical compound capable of inhibiting the corrinoid methyl transferase in methanogens reducing either CO2 or acetate to methane.
