At the highest level, the registry views this collection of objects as a device. The device includes DNA, mRNA, proteins. But what is inside the device is not important. What is really important is what the device does, in this case the amount of a small molecule regulates the activity of a promoter. Hence, this device might be an AHL in, POPS out receiver device.
