mmuGlucagon
mmuGlucagon is a hormone secreted by islet alpha cells in the pancreas of mice with insulin. It is a linear polypeptide composed of amino acids. It works against insulin to increase blood sugar content.Glucagon has a strong role in promoting glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, which significantly increases blood glucose. Glucagon activates phosphorylase in liver cells through the cAmp-pk system, which accelerates glycogenolysis. Glucagon can also activate lipase, promote the decomposition of fat, and enhance the oxidation of fatty acids, so that ketone body production increased. mmuGlucagon can raise the mice' s glucose content, which creates the condition where we conduct the later experiment related to glucose balance.
Usage and Biology
The hormone is used to raise the glucose content in mice's body so as to create a high-glucose environment. Some of the subsequent experiments are based on the condition. To test our approach's influence on the glucose balance, we need to first increase glucose content so that the changes are easier to discover.
