alcohol acetyltransferase I; converts isoamyl alcohol to isoamyl acetate (banana odor)
This part is the ATF1 sequence BBa_J45006 with a single point mutation at base pair 1148 (T -> C). Alcohol acetyltransferase I (ATF1) encodes the enzyme alcohol acetyltransferase I (AATase I), which produces acetate esters from acetyl CoA and alcohols. It was obtained from S. cerevisiae.
Usage and Biology
[Note that this is not aspartate amino transferase (also called "AATase"), and that "ATF1" also refers to "Activating Transcription Factor 1" in humans (an entirely different protein that is homologous to "Atf1" in mouse).]
