GltT: glutamate and glyphosate transporter in B. subtilis
This part is coding for a glutamate and glyphosate uptake transporter. The DNA sequence of the gltT gene is coding for the GltT transporter, who is responsible for glutamate uptake into the cell. However, gltT also has an affinity to glyphosate and is involved in its uptake as well.
In the abscence of GltT causes the bacteria to develop a resistance against glyphosate, as less of this herbicide and antibiotic are transported into the cell. This means that this part has the potential to be involved in the development of glyphosate resistant detection and inactivation systems.
